Can Braeden West’s hot streak help push the Mustangs over .500? AAC Blogger Media Poll - Week 9

Claude Mathis, like SMU head coach Chad Morris, made his way to the college ranks through the wonderful world that is Texas high school football.

Following a go-ahead touchdown in SMU’s 35-31 win over Tulane by fellow Texan, sophomore running back Braeden West (Katy, TX), the Mustangs’ running backs coach shared a special moment with his young playmaker.

West has broken out this season following an injury to his counterpart in the backfield, Xavier Jones.

His 755 yards have already doubled his rushing output from his freshman year, and he has gained over 100 yards in each of the last three games (along with four touchdowns).

SMU (4-4, 2-2) takes on Memphis this Saturday, and has the opportunity to taste a winning record in the month of November for the first time since 2011.
